At Vees we follow the age grade rugby framework set out by the RFU for our children’s and youth set up. This allows the players to pick up the game in graduated stages, through the years, to ensure that it remains a fun, safe game for all ages. It also allows them to learn the necessary rugby skills at a gradual pace without putting the pressure on them to learn everything all at once.
The age grade framework is outlined below.

Minis: Years 1-7 (Under 6 to Under 12)
Juniors: Years 8-13 (Under 13 to Colts – Years 12& 13 combined)
Mini players can join the club the academic year that they turn 6. At this age there is no contact and training will focus on teamwork, handling, passing and tag rugby. Teams are made up of mixed genders, with boys and girls playing in the same team.
Contact is introduced at U9 level, and the girls and boys continue in the same team until they reach secondary school (U12s), at which point it is required that they into single sex teams. Up until this point, all matches vs other clubs are friendly fixtures.
When the players reach U13s in year 8, they then enter the Junior set up and matches start to become a little more competitive with an introduction to League fixtures. Post Year 11, the players will then move into the Colts, which is made of players for both years 12 and 13 before they age up into the Senior squad.
